What was inspired by neuroscience...

Deliciously chewy brains with gooey hemorrhage. Surprisingly not that bad, but shockingly not my favorite candy ;) Wonder which side is the frontal lobe...

My Psych Must See Movie List (1945 to 2011)

Here's my list of psychological thrillers and other interesting movies with a neuroscience/psychological twist in chronological order from 1945 to 2011. Please feel free to comment and help me expand the list with your favorites ;)

PS: The more stars, the more the psychological content. Also, the ones in green are MUST MUST see.
  • 2011 - Perfect Sense****
Although this movie is portrayed as a love story, the intensity of the movie regarding the main plot which is that people slowly lose their senses one by one, is what you must watch it for.

  • 2010 - Shutter Island *****

  • 2010 - Inception ****
A very interesting science fiction movie regarding the control of other people's dreams and, thus unconsciousness.

    • 2010 - Black Swan****
An artistic psychotic movie about a ballet dancer who is trying to reach perfection as she is in conflict with two sides of herself.

    • 2009 - The Soloist *****
A touching amazing drama about homelessness and mental illness (more specifically schizophrenia).

    • 2008 - In Treatment (Season 1) *****
The show focuses on the main character being a psychologist and each episode is devoted to one of his patients. We follow each patient every few episodes. What is interesting is that we also follow his issues in his personal life.
    • 2003 - The Number 23 ***

    • 2002 - Solaris ****
Based on the Polish scifi novel of the same name (1961) by Stanisław Lem, this movie should be seen. However, reading the book is even better.

      • 1965 - The Collector ****
Based on the novel The Collector by John Fowles (his first novel), this movie follows the story of an obsessive collector who abducts a woman and keeps her locked like a precious item in his collection. (By the way, the trailer is hilarious since it's so old, but still and interesting movie :)

      • 1945 - Spellbound *****
Black and white Hitchcock movie about a man with dissociative amnesia. Interesting dream scenes with actual Dali paintings.

Still Face Experiment: Dr. Edward Tronick

This video shows the effects of social referencing and how important it is for the baby's socio-emotional development. Getting feedback from the mother is crucial for the baby. The baby is very sensitive to a change in attitude of the mother even in those few minutes. This phenomena has major implications in cases of abuse and neglect, where children are deeply affected by the indifferent or negative attitudes and feelings of their mother, but also father.

Why is there humility in philosophy?

Question and Answers in Wikipedia; never thought I would actually use this as a source, but found the topic and answers interesting :)
      "
Here are six reasons why humility is built into philosophy.

      1) We are first and foremost aware that our own arguments may ultimately rest upon certain unproven assumptions.

      2) We must listen carefully and attentively to the other party's arguments in order to fully understand the position they are trying to defend.

      3) We must acknowledge the weaknesses in our positions once they have been demonstrated and be willing to make concessions.

      4) When rebutting our opponents, we must reconstruct their positions as accurately as possible and also be charitable as possible in our interpretations of their arguments.

      5) We realize that Truth does not take sides. We stand for it even if it entails abandoning our own arguments.

      6) Realizing that all of the above is also up for debate!
