What was inspired by neuroscience...

Deliciously chewy brains with gooey hemorrhage. Surprisingly not that bad, but shockingly not my favorite candy ;) Wonder which side is the frontal lobe...

My Psych Must See Movie List (1945 to 2011)

Here's my list of psychological thrillers and other interesting movies with a neuroscience/psychological twist in chronological order from 1945 to 2011. Please feel free to comment and help me expand the list with your favorites ;)

PS: The more stars, the more the psychological content. Also, the ones in green are MUST MUST see.
  • 2011 - Perfect Sense****
Although this movie is portrayed as a love story, the intensity of the movie regarding the main plot which is that people slowly lose their senses one by one, is what you must watch it for.

  • 2010 - Shutter Island *****

  • 2010 - Inception ****
A very interesting science fiction movie regarding the control of other people's dreams and, thus unconsciousness.

    • 2010 - Black Swan****
An artistic psychotic movie about a ballet dancer who is trying to reach perfection as she is in conflict with two sides of herself.

    • 2009 - The Soloist *****
A touching amazing drama about homelessness and mental illness (more specifically schizophrenia).

    • 2008 - In Treatment (Season 1) *****
The show focuses on the main character being a psychologist and each episode is devoted to one of his patients. We follow each patient every few episodes. What is interesting is that we also follow his issues in his personal life.
    • 2003 - The Number 23 ***

    • 2002 - Solaris ****
Based on the Polish scifi novel of the same name (1961) by StanisÅ‚aw Lem, this movie should be seen. However, reading the book is even better.

    • 2001 - Waking Life *****
Must must see. This documentary/fiction walks us through the main character's dream as he encounters strange people who enlighten us with interesting philosophical ideas about the mind.

    • 2001 - A Beautiful Mind ****

    • 2000 - Memento *****
An amazingly filmed psychological thriller about a man with anterograde amnesia.

      • 1997 - Good Will Hunting ****

      • 1991 - Start Trek: The Next Generation (Season 4) *****

      • 1990 - Awakenings *****
An amazing account of a doctor working with Parkinson's patients as L-Dopa is being discovered.

      • 1965 - The Collector ****
Based on the novel The Collector by John Fowles (his first novel), this movie follows the story of an obsessive collector who abducts a woman and keeps her locked like a precious item in his collection. (By the way, the trailer is hilarious since it's so old, but still and interesting movie :)

      • 1945 - Spellbound *****
Black and white Hitchcock movie about a man with dissociative amnesia. Interesting dream scenes with actual Dali paintings.
